The ATHENA project is pleased to share that on Thursday, November 27th, it reached an important milestone with the presentation of its first scientific contribution at the BTSym’25 Conference. This event marked a key moment in the project’s dissemination activities, providing an opportunity to introduce the paper “ATHENA: An AI-Driven Framework for Continuous Security Assessment of EU Hardware and Software” to the research and innovation community.
During the presentation, the ATHENA team explained the project’s vision for a new generation of security assessment capabilities in Europe. The paper highlights how ATHENA integrates hybrid analysis techniques, such as static, dynamic, binary and fuzzing approaches, with AI-driven services designed to enhance the detection and evaluation of vulnerabilities across both hardware and software systems. It also introduces the concept of secure virtual testing environments, enabling realistic and controlled experimentation that supports continuous assessment and compliance with evolving European cybersecurity frameworks, including CRA, NIS2 and EUCC.
The participation in BTSym’25 offered a valuable opportunity to share ATHENA’s technical objectives and early insights with academics, practitioners and innovators from different parts of the world. It also opened a space for dialogue about the future of cybersecurity, the role of automation and AI in complex digital ecosystems, and the need for robust, adaptable and scalable security assessment solutions. The interest shown by attendees underscores the importance of developing tools that can support Europe’s growing demand for security and resilience in critical digital infrastructures.
