We are pleased to announce that the ATHENA project – Advanced Validation and Testing Environment for Enhancing the EU HW and SW Vulnerabilities Assessment and Security based on Innovative AI Services – officially started on October 1st, 2025.
To mark the launch, the Kick-off Meeting was held on October 7–8 in Valencia, Spain, hosted by our coordinating partner, the Centre for Information Technologies (CTRS) of the Universitat Politècnica de València, alongside Fundación Valenciaport.
During these two days, the 16 project partners came together to outline the vision, goals, and roadmap for the next 36 months. The sessions included presentations on project structure, technical work packages, impact strategies, and initial actions to be undertaken in the first months.
ATHENA aims to strengthen Europe’s capabilities in hardware and software vulnerability assessment by developing a robust and secure testing environment powered by innovative AI services. The project brings together a diverse consortium of universities, research centres, SMEs, public bodies, and industry stakeholders from across Europe, all committed to a shared mission: boosting cybersecurity resilience across critical sectors.
In the early stages of the project, ATHENA will focus on:
- Defining technical and functional requirements
- Identifying key enabling technologies for vulnerability detection
- Designing the reference architecture for the testing environment
- Launching the first communication and dissemination actions
The kickoff meeting reflected the high level of collaboration and motivation among the partners to build impactful and ethical cybersecurity solutions that can be applied to real-world industrial and critical infrastructure scenarios.
We are excited to begin this journey and to contribute to a stronger, more autonomous, and secure digital Europe.
